CASE STUDY

Architected and designed a financial news app using Material Design and Figma. Giving Android users a proper experience.

Client: JPMorgan (JPM)
Where: Oh Hi, Hello
What: Insights Android App
Audience: Investors
My Role: Design Direction

GOAL

After some research, it was found that the EMEA and APAC markets were missing out on JPMorgan’s insights due to the absence of Android support. The existing app was only reaching iOS users.

The goal was not only to expand the audience, but to also upgrade the experience and capabilities.

CHALLENGE

Originally tasked with revamping the existing iOS app, the pivot to Android was interesting as none of the team had experience designing for the platform.

  • User patterns and expectations differ from iOS

  • Android’s system offers unique components, terminology, and functionality

SOLUTION

We jumped into the Material 3 Design Kit (M3) which helped speed development and prototyping.

Leveraging the thinking and flows that we accomplished for iOS, M3 was accessible enough to quickly adapt for our purposes.

Full Team: Anne Baker, Marcy Boesen, Elliot Arthur

iOS

The original proof of concept.

PROCESS

After a few rounds of exploration and ideation, we were confident enough to start building Android-native elements, establish a navigation system, and shape the MVP architecture with M3 components.

PROTOTYPE

As our team worked through the minutia of the UI, the development team pressure tested our flows and functionality inside Android Studio. (And a little help from AI)
